Brief
Wolfgang Tillmans is a renowned queer german photographer whose main focus are raw moments between friends, family and lovers as well as still life, showcasing queerness all over the world and to show unconditional love between individuals of all backgrounds. His exhibitions often seem “random” or not cared about, as pieces are placed in odd ways all over the venu, but every placement is carefully randomly placed.
Creative Strategy
This book was fun from beginning to end, from the cover design to page layout it was creative freedom, very much like Wolfgang himself, I let go and designed away. The book title “Raw Sex & love” was carefully chosen to represent wolfgang's main focuses. I believe the exhibitions would be fun to attend, seeing how some of his pieces have been printed on a low quality printer paper and hung up using duct tape and others are printed at high quality and in glass panes. The framing of his pieces tell a story. I used his exhibitions as inspiration for the layout of text and images and curated what I deemed his best photographs.
Outcome
I am quite pleased with the results, the book feels very raw yet has an editorial feel to it. The idea of open space and his exhibition style is integrated throughout the whole book and with every page comes a breath of fresh air.
